Research and innovation
The British Society of Gastroenterology (BSG) is keen to encourage and support its members to undertake research in gastroenterology and its related disciplines to benefit patients. The BSG views the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) portfolio as a particularly important route to undertake research in the NHS, for the NHS, by the NHS so that all patients anywhere in the UK have the opportunity to benefit from participation in research and clinical trials.
The BSG has set out a new research strategy which describes how members can become involved in the priority areas set by our clinical research groups. The strategy also highlights that we are supportive of research engagement involving all of our membership, from trainees through to consultant grade gastroenterologists.
The BSG research activities are promoted through the active research committee and supported by four subspecialty research groups (hepatology, inflammatory bowel disease, food and function, and endoscopy), which develop projects and grants relevant to the needs of patients in the UK.
